The purpose of positive affirmations is to replace those negative thoughts with positive thoughts and what we think most often becomes our truth. Our kids are also constantly surrounded by negative messaging from friends, classmates, social media, TV, and unsupportive adults. Science has shown that our brains are biased toward negativity.
